idk who needs to hear this but nurses who work 16hr shifts aren’t heroes. they’re horrifically exploited workers& they don’t need thanks or applause, they need more colleagues and better labour protection

bonespugsnharmony

As a nurse I will say that it’s sad and has been a rude awakening to know that in times of widespread hardship, people will expect you to put your life on the line- and anyone you love and interact with- just to make up for the government and medical field’s greed. We have little staff, either because people are sick or just afraid to come in due to the fear of getting sick. We have little to no protective gear. The ONE face mask they give us per shift doesn’t do CRAP! Administration is no help for us on the actual field and these hospitals are trying to cover up new cases of COVID-19 to hide the fact that their “protection” for staff and patients is inadequate. This week alone, two of my patients have been confirmed cases and 3 medical staff have been confirmed too. It’s not heroic to see your fellow colleagues catch a deadly virus. It’s not fun to see young people my age, OR ANY AGE FOR THAT MATTER, be on a damn ventilator. IT’S TRAUMATIZING! And to think there are people who aren’t taking this seriously still!

On March 22nd, Erick hosted a webinar on PrEP 101 to talk about how it prevents the transmission of HIV, how to access it and it’s importance for young people, especially for him.

“I was hospitalized when I was 16 for syphilis. After my experience in the hospital, I vowed to myself that I would not let a 16 year old or anyone go without knowing about STIs or HIV prevention because I didn’t want them to be in the same predicament I was in. Luckily, syphilis is curable but at the same time, I didn’t know about it, my mom didn’t know about it.

URGENT ACTION NEEDED #BringBringasHOME

Department of Homeland Security is in violation of a court order. Bringas’ legal team at Immigrant Defenders Law Center and Sharma-Crawford Attorneys at Law need your help to #BringBringasHOME

Carlos Bringas-Rodriguez (“Bringas”) is gay HIV-positive Mexican refugee who until recently was living in Kansas City with his United States Citizen husband. On December 22, three days before Christmas, DHS deported Bringas back to Mexico, a place that he fled from after suffering years of harrowing sexual abuse. DHS deported him without notice to his family or lawyers and without regard to his life-threatening HIV-disease.

Bringas should never have been deported. In March 2017, Bringas won his case before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Court returned the case to the immigration court with specific instructions that ensured Bringas’ life would not be placed in unnecessary peril.

His deportation was a result of a failure by the Immigration Court and DHS to follow the Ninth Circuit’s order. Unbeknownst to Bringas, an immigration judge had ordered him removed in a hearing where he was not present. He had not even had notice of the hearing. DHS then deported Carlos.

Bringas is now in Mexico, hiding in a hotel with only a rapidly dwindling supply of his HIV medications. Bringas came to the US as a teenager after having experienced years of sexual abuse at the hands of relatives and a neighbor who abused him because of his sexual orientation and threatened to kill him if he reported the abuse.

Bringas’ legal team at Immigrant Defenders Law Center and Sharma-Crawford Attorneys at Law is trying to get the San Diego Immigration Court to undo the deportation order so that we can bring Bringas back home. In the meantime, DHS must parole Bringas into the country so that he can resume his treatment and remain protected while the courts render a decision. #BringBringasHOME

It’s crazy how words that originated in gay culture became so popular in today’s mainstream media while simultaneously being discredited/unacknowledged for originated in gay culture.

muruaaappp

Okay but not just gay, its black gay culture. The cultural cooptation happens from white gays/queer people as well as cishet communities.

@itsarifitz: black queer intimacy: a concept.

conceptual bc in film and tv, you don’t see this. our love isn’t there. the imagined worlds of hollywood don’t have brown or black queer inhabitants that are intimate with each other. when there’s a consistent erasure of your story from popular culture, you start to think your story, your love, your fears, your existence don’t matter. walking in someone else’s ill-fitting shoes, forever living through their experience, their eyes, their lens can be exhausting and uncomfortable. plus, bunions ain’t cute in any shade, boo. which is why i’m tired of white cis straight women in romantic comedies teaching me how to love. no shade sarah, i’ve just worn your shoes and seen through your lens my whole life. so, here’s mine. here’s how i love.
